Oak Grove Cemetery

1838. This was the original cemetery for Brunswick, it was laid out in 1838, and still has a wooden tombstone. Over 100 Civil War veterans, Confederate and Union were laid to rest here, including members of the Brunswick Riflemen a unit that served in every major conflict. Also buried in Oak Grove is native Capt. Douglas Risley, US Army, founder of the Risley School of Freedmen the city’s first African-American School.
