The mourning dove is a slim grayish-brown bird with a long, tapering tail. It is one of the most common and widespread native birds in North America. It is found in a variety of habitats from deserts to farmlands to suburbs and parks. The melancholy call "who-ah, whoo, whoo, whoo," gives the mourning dove its name.
