Raccoons are usually identified by the black mask across the eyes and the bushy, ringed tail. Although active mostly at night, they are sometimes seen during the day. They usually feed along streams, ponds and marshes, sometimes dunking food in the water before eating. Their food includes fruits, nuts, insects and eggs.

They are also often roadkill, and feed on trash can contents.
