Oglethorpe Hotel

Built 1888. Razed 1958. Victorian Style. Designer: J.A. Wood Construction. Funding: Henry B. Plant.

Originally built for Jekyll Island Club members while the Jekyll Island Club was being built.

Surrounded by a covered promenade, 240 feet in length.

Replaced by a chain hotel (Holiday Inn) and a department store (J.C. Penney).

Architect, Stanford White, of New York did not design the hotel.
